Preliminary Task Evaluation

Preliminary Task Evaluation

How Filming Went:
I believe that overall, the filming went relatively well. As three of the four members within our group took media for GCSE's, we had a better understanding of how to use the equipment such as the Apple mac's, video camera and Tripods. In addition, we had a good idea as to what camera shots we wanted to include and the setting/props. Having asked additional students/teachers to act within the sequence, it created a more authentic scene, and helped to us to complete the task in time for the deadline.

How Editing Went:
Having previous experience with the editing software, final cut express, we were able to quickly and efficiently edit the scenes. However, it took us slightly longer to add Foley within the sequence, due to timing issues.

Problems Encountered:
We came across some problems with casting as some of the actors were unreliable by turning up late. However, we were able to still complete the task in time. As well as this, the actors we had chosen lacked experience in front of the camera, therefore several scenes had to be re-filmed.

Strengths:
The added use of Foley within the sequence, especially the first scene, made the final production more professional. The setting and props, such as a red table cloth, whiskey glass and a dim lamp, proved successful in establishing the genre of the scene: crime/thriller. The use of props also provided strong conventions of the crime aspect, for example, the red tablecloth connoting blood/murder.

Weaknesses:
The main fault with our sequence was failure to follow the 180 degree rule. We were unsuccessful in doing this as when filming from behind the actors, we filmed from the opposite side of each perspective, going against the rule, which should be filmed on the imaginary line of vision, rather than diagonally across.

Keep the Same Next Time:
The use of props and setting in order to reflect the genre in hand. The use of additional sounds such as Foley, in order for a professional end result and to prevent unclear audio.

Change Next Time:
Get more experienced actors and allow them to have more time to rehearse the script to prevent time wasting. Follow the 180 degree rule in order to achieve high marks.
