Production and
Distribution Companies
A production company provides
the physical basis for works in the domain of the performing arts, new media
art, film, television, radio and video. These companies may be directly
responsible for fundraising for production, or funds are gained through other
means. The production companies handles budgeting, scheduling, scripting,
organisation of staff, production itself, distribution and marketing. The
companies are either owned or under contract with other companies who act as
the production company’s partner or parent company.
A film distributor is a
company or individual responsible for the marketing for a film. These
distributors may set the release date or when the film is available for
viewing, such as theatrically or home viewing. A limited distributor may deal
only with particular products such as DVD’s or Blu-ray, or perhaps act in
particular countries or markets.
Some examples of
production companies include:
DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures,
Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Pictures
and Pixar Animation studios.

distribution companies include: DC
Comics, Marvel Comics, Lions Gate Films, Momentum Pictures, Rouge Pictures,
Troma Entertainment, Sony Pictures Classic, Miramax, Hallmark Entertainment and
Weinstein Company.
Lions Gate Entertainment: Lions Gate Entertainment is one of the most well known distributorcompanies. It is the most commercially successful independent film
and television distribution companies and seventh most profitable movie studio,
generating revenue of over two billion dollars. The most successful releases by
this company include ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Expendables’.
